Organic chemistry and O Guide - Resources and Review

An index of European organometallic chemists and their fields of research arranged by country.

Speciality polymers and biologically active compounds.

Presents a collection of exercises in Mechanistic Organic Chemistry and Synthetic Organic Chemistry. Exercises are aimed at undergraduates and postgraduates, with full solutions provided, and are offered as PDF files.

Course of eight lectures and lecture
demonstrations which aim to introduce in a simple way the hierarchy of computational modelling methods used as standard tools by organic chemists for searching for, rationalising and predicting structure and reactivity of organic, bio-organic and organometallic molecules.

International science education course. Graphical and hypertext material for the course has been supplied by 30 experts in protein structure, many of whom also contribute to email discussions and tutorials. Winner of the 1996 UCISA award for promoting good practice in the use of the Web within the UK higher education sector.

A service for biological sequence analysis, consisting of 2884 blocks representing 770 protein groups. Blocks are multiply aligned ungapped segments corresponding to the most highly conserved regions of proteins. Block Searcher, Get Blocks and Block Maker are aids to detection and verification of protein sequence homology. They compare a protein or DNA sequence to a database of protein blocks, retrieve blocks, and create new blocks, respectively.

The journal publishes original letters and papers, mini
reviews and reports describing research on biological phenomena in terms of the principles and methods of physics and chemistry. It is receptive to articles which deal with biological molecules and systems and to papers which treat systems serving as models for these. Treatments, phenomenological as well as molecular, of the interactions, structure and biological functions of individual biological macromolecules, and of supramolecular structures, are also within the journal's remit.

Information about current research, including microgel particles; monodisperse, surfactant
free silicone oil-in-water emulsions; a variety of core-shell systems; microemulsions; synthetic clays; adsorption studies of polymers and their effect on dispersancy properties; attachment of particles with gas bubbles; and particle deposition/adsorption onto macroscopic surfaces.

A guide to organic synthesis, including chapters on Grignard Reactions, Linear Synthesis and Convergent Synthesis.

Offers examples and suggestions of how computers can be useful in teaching chemistry. Includes illustrations of graphical solutions to equations, simple atomic orbitals, structures of various organic molecules (illustrating some concepts in conformational analysis), nucleic acids (with simulation of DNA Movement) and amino acids (with simulation of Crambin Movement).

Proceedings and papers from ETOC, covering physical organic, mechanistic and biological subject areas.

Interdisciplinary research centre for aspects of polymer, random, and fractal systems which develops experimental and computational materials for school and undergraduate education.

Resources are organised into headings which reflect the activities of organic chemists: 'literature', including databases, articles (some from commercial providers), patents, bibliography management and books; 'the bench', including laboratory techniques and scientific instruments, 'structural analysis', including infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet spectroscopy and elemental analysis; 'the desk' which covers article writing and software, and 'communication' which lists forthcoming meetings both electronic and face
to-face.

Series of pages depicting generalised organic reactions, showing how to convert one functional group into another. Available in PDF.

Directory of biology and chemistry resources covering cell biology, genetics, microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry and organic chemistry. Also includes journals and articles on laboratory safety and careers in science.

Provides news, information on publications, events, and membership details for the American Chemical Society Division of Polymer Chemistry.

The EXTOXNET InfoBase provides a variety of information about pesticides. The Pesticide Information Profiles contiain specific information on pesticides, Toxicology Information Briefs contain a discussion of certain concepts in toxicology and environmental chemistry. Other topic areas include: Toxicology Issues of Concern, factsheets, news about toxicology issues, newsletters, resources

Electronic journal for chemists where short refereed papers on experimental data records for individual molecules are published. Focusing on unconventional, experimental data such as starting materials and synthetic intermediates, items are searchable by substructure or chemical and physical characteristics.

Offers original articles and features about chemistry, plus annotated links to selected relevant Internet resources compiled by a subject specialist, a subject
specific bulletin board, and details of related news and events. Topics include analytical chemistry, atomic structure, biochemistry, chromatography, crystallography, electrochemistry, plastics and polymers, and spectroscopy.

Service offering remote protein sequence analysis. There is a choice of sequence analysis mthods (Prosite, Fasta), secondary structure prediction and databases for pattern search.
