Scheme designed to classify and categorise the literature of physics and astronomy for materials such as journal subject indexes, catalogues, computerised databases, online journals, CD
ROM versions of journals, and any other collection of physics and astronomy resources. PACS is arranged hierarchically, by subdivision to four levels.

Library and archives of the ROE which possesses one of the most comprehensive collections of astronomical literature in existence. Site includes information about the library, access to the catalogue, links to other astronomy resources and libraries and to electronic journals.

NASA funded project whose main resource is three sets of abstracts: 1) astronomy and astrophysics, containing 240,000 abstracts; 2) instrumentation, containing 460,000 abstracts; and 3) physics and geophysics, containing 220,000 abstracts.

The SIMBAD astronomical database brings together basic data, cross
identifications, observational measurements, and bibliography, for celestial objects outside the solar system: stars, galaxies, and nonstellar objects within our galaxy, or in external galaxies.

Details of research activities, programs, projects, laboratories and services in x
ray astronomy, including a picture gallery, data and images from the ROSAT satellite. Most information is available in English and German.

Published proceedings, background information and educational material on four debates between leaders in the astronomy community: The Scale of the Universe (Curtis and Shapley, 1920), The Distance Scale to Gamma
ray Bursts (Paczynski and Lamb, 1995), The Scale of the Universe (Tammann and van den Bergh, 1996) and The Nature of the Universe (Peebles and Turner, 1998).

The Nuffield Radio Astronomy Laboratories at Jodrell Bank are home to some of Britain's major astronomical research facilities, including the 76
metre Lovell Telescope, and MERLIN, a synthetic-aperture radio telescope operated on behalf of PPARC.

Document summaries, research papers, datasets, and news about pulsar research.

Offers access to images from various solar system exploration programs. Provides images of each planet in the solar system taken from a number of different spacecraft and instruments, presented as thumbnails and in full resolution TIFF format.

Collection of images of specific portions of the night sky, searchable by coordinates, scale, and orientation via non
astronomer, basic, advanced, and Java interfaces. Incorporates a dictionary for those with minimul knowledge of astronomy.

A collection of over 107,000 spectral images, including ultraviolet observations of every kind of object from planets to quasars over the years 1978 to 1996. Data may be obtained from the catalogue by file transfer.

Links to and descriptions of astronomy resources including journals, preprints, newsletters and thesis material.

A consortium of educational and other non
profit institutions that operates astronomical observatories. Aims to serve the astronomical community by providing modern facilities to qualified scientists in all universities.

Project group using infrared technology to scan the skies to create a complete celestial census. Contains data sets, factual documents, images, and links to other similar projects.

Collection of images of gaseous nebulae. Each image is complemented by descriptive text, including details such as the type of nebula, and its distance from Earth.

Information about NASA's Observatory launched in July 1999 to observe X
rays from high energy regions of the universe. Includes photographs, a guide to x-ray astronomy and sources, resources for teachers, parents and students, interactive games, and an archive of press releases and images.
